పర్యావరణ పరిరక్షణ, ప్రజారోగ్యాన్ని దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకుని ప్రొద్దుటూరును ప్లాస్టిక్ రహిత పట్టణంగా తీర్చిదిద్దేందుకు చర్యలు చేపడుతున్నట్లు మున్సిపల్ కమిషనర్ తూతిక శ్రీనివాస విశ్వనాథ్ తెలిపారు.
ఈ సందర్భంగా కమిషనర్ విశ్వనాథ్ మాట్లాడుతూ :
ఆగస్టు 15 నుంచి పట్టణంలో ప్లాస్టిక్ను పూర్తిగా నిషేధించేందుకు బ్లూప్రింట్ సిద్ధం చేశామని, వ్యాపారులు ప్లాస్టిక్ విక్రయాలు, వినియోగాన్ని స్వచ్ఛందంగా నిలిపివేయాలని, నిబంధనలు ఉల్లంఘిస్తే కఠిన చర్యలు తప్పవని,
ప్లాస్టిక్ నివారణ, పర్యవేక్షణకు ప్రత్యేక టాస్క్ఫోర్స్ ఏర్పాటు చేస్తున్నామని, పట్టణంలో రోజుకు 18–20 టన్నుల ప్లాస్టిక్ వ్యర్థాలను పారిశుధ్య సిబ్బంది సేకరిస్తున్నారని చెప్పారు. ప్రజలు, వ్యాపారులు సహకరిస్తే ప్లాస్టిక్ రహిత ప్రొద్దుటూరు సాధ్యమేనన్నారు.
రేపు భారీ ర్యాలీ :
స్వచ్ఛ సంకల్ప దీక్షలో భాగంగా ఆగస్టు 6న మెప్మా ఆధ్వర్యంలో భారీ ర్యాలీ నిర్వహించనున్నట్లు కమిషనర్ తెలిపారు. ఎమ్మెల్యే నంద్యాల వరదరాజులరెడ్డి ముఖ్య అతిథిగా పాల్గొనే ర్యాలీ అనిబిసెంట్ మున్సిపల్ హైస్కూల్ నుంచి ప్రారంభమై మెయిన్రోడ్డులోని శివాలయం వరకు సాగుతుంది. అనంతరం మానవహారం నిర్వహించి ప్లాస్టిక్ నివారణపై ప్రజలు, వ్యాపారులకు అవగాహన కల్పించనున్నారు. కార్యక్రమంలో మెప్మా సీఏంఎం మహాలక్ష్మి, శానిటరీ సూపర్వైజర్ నూర్బాషా పాల్గొన్నారు.

Proddatur gets tough on plastic, task force set up ahead of August 15 ban
Proddatur is set to become a plastic-free town, with the municipal authorities preparing to impose a complete ban on plastic from August 15, Municipal Commissioner T. Srinivasa Viswanath said.
The move is aimed at protecting the environment and safeguarding public health. The Commissioner said a detailed action plan had been prepared to eliminate the use of plastic in the town and urged traders and commercial establishments to voluntarily stop the sale and use of plastic items.
He warned that strict action would be taken against those violating the ban. A special task force would also be constituted to monitor the implementation of the ban, prevent the circulation of plastic and conduct regular inspections across the town.
According to the Commissioner, sanitation workers are currently collecting nearly 18 to 20 tonnes of plastic waste every day in Proddatur. He said the cooperation of residents, traders and other stakeholders was essential to make the town completely plastic-free.
Mega rally on August 6 :
As part of the Swachh Sankalp Deeksha, a mega awareness rally will be organised in Proddatur on August 6 under the aegis of MEPMA.
MLA Nandyala Varadarajula Reddy will participate as the chief guest. The rally will commence from Annie Besant Municipal High School and proceed along the main road up to the Shivalayam.
A human chain will be formed at the end of the rally as part of the awareness campaign against plastic use. Residents, traders and members of the public will be sensitised to the environmental and health hazards associated with plastic.
MEPMA CMM Mahalakshmi and Sanitary Supervisor Noorbasha will participate in the programme.
