YASHODA HOSPITALS OFFERS HOPE FOR CHILDREN WITH BLOOD DISORDERS THROUGH BONE MARROW TRANSPLANTS
Modern bone marrow transplantation can provide a permanent cure for childhood blood disorders such as thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia, said Dr. Ashok Kumar, senior bone marrow transplant specialist and hemato-oncologist at Yashoda Hospitals, Somajiguda. Speaking to reporters at a media meet held Saturday at Hotel Grand Arya, Dr. Ashok highlighted significant progress in the field over recent years.
“Yashoda team has performed over 450 successful bone marrow transplants to date,” he said, adding that early detection and timely treatment allow affected children to lead normal lives. He noted outcomes improve markedly when a compatible donor is available among family members, and that advances in technology have made the procedure safer than before.
Dr. Ashok urged parents not to ignore symptoms such as anaemia, recurrent fever and persistent weakness, and to consult specialists promptly. He emphasised public awareness about these conditions and the importance of early diagnosis.
To increase access to advanced care, Yashoda Hospitals now offers specialised clinics on the third Saturday of every month in Eluru, and on the second Wednesday in Kakinada and Rajahmundry. The event was attended by Andhra Pradesh Marketing Manager Nallam Bal Veerabhadram, Marketing Executive P. Praveen and other hospital representatives.
