విద్యాదాతగా, స్ఫూర్తి ప్రధాతగా నాలుగున్నర దశాబ్దాలుగా గ్రామీణ ప్రాంతాలలో మట్టిలో మాణిక్యాల వంటి విద్యార్థులను వెలికి తీసి వారిని విజేతలుగా తీర్చిదిద్దుతున్న డాక్టర్ బి.ఆర్ అంబేద్కర్ కోనసీమ జిల్లా, రామచంద్రపురం పట్టణానికి చెందిన ప్రతిష్టాత్మక మోడరన్ విద్యాసంస్థల అధినేత డాక్టర్ లయన్ జి.వి.రావు విద్యాసంస్థల స్థాపించిన ప్రారంభం నుండి నేటి వరకు అక్షర సేవ చేస్తూ లక్ష మంది విద్యార్థులను దేశ విదేశాల్లో గొప్ప స్థానాల్లో నిలిపారు.
రామచంద్రపురం మండలంలో యనమదల అనే ఒక కుగ్రామంలో దిగువ మధ్యతరగతి కుటుంబంలో జన్మించిన జి. వి. రావు చిన్ననాటి నుండే అక్షరంపై మక్కువ పెంచుకున్నారు. బాల్యంలో ఆర్థిక ఇబ్బందులు ఎదురైనప్పటికీ ఆత్మవిశ్వాసం కోల్పోకుండా విద్యాభ్యాసన కొనసాగించారు. ఒకపక్క విద్యాభ్యాసం చేస్తూనే మరోపక్క శారీరక శ్రమ చేస్తూ చిన్నతనం నుండే కుటుంబాన్ని పోషించిన ఘనత జి.వి.రావుకే దక్కింది. రెండు పదుల వయసు నిండకుండనే అమృతమయి మంగాదేవిని వివాహమాడిన జి. వి.రావు అనంతరం తన స్వయంకృషితో, తన సతీమణి సహకారంతో విద్యారంగంలో అంచెలంచలుగా ఎదిగి ప్రముఖ విద్యావేత్తగా పేరు గడించారు.
విద్యారంగంలోనే కాకుండా, సామాజిక సేవారంగంలో కూడా జి.వి.రావు తన ప్రత్యేకతను చాటుకున్నారు. మోడరన్ ఫౌండేషన్ స్థాపించి అనేక సేవా కార్యక్రమాల్లో చురుగ్గా పాల్గొంటున్నారు. ఆపన్నులకు ఆర్థిక సహాయం అందజేయడం, ప్రకృతి విపత్తుల సమయంలో ప్రభుత్వానికి తన వంతు సహకారం అందుచేయటం, ప్రతిభ గల మరియు ఆర్థికంగా వెనుకబడిన విద్యార్థులకు ఉచిత విద్యను అందజేయడం, వివిధ ప్రభుత్వ రంగాల్లో అంకితభావంతో విధులు నిర్వహిస్తున్న ఉద్యోగులకు పురస్కారాలు ప్రధానం చేయడం, రాజకీయవేత్తలను, సైనికులను, రైతుల సేవలను గుర్తించి సత్కరించడం వంటి విభిన్న కార్యక్రమాలు జి.వి రావు క్రమం తప్పకుండా నిర్వహిస్తూ పలువురికి ఆదర్శంగా నిలుస్తున్నారు.

ఏడు పదుల వయసుకు దగ్గరవుతున్న జి.వి. రావును చూస్తే ఆయనకు వయసు అనేది ఒక అంకె మాత్రమే అనిపిస్తుంది. స్వతహాగా వెంకటేశ్వర స్వామి అనుంగు భక్తుడైన జి. వి. రావు ఏడు సంఖ్యను అదృష్ట సంఖ్యగా భావిస్తారు. ఈ పరంపరలో ఏడు అంకెతో ఆయనకి విశిష్ట అనుబంధం ఉంది.

జి. వి. రావు లయనిజం భావాల పట్ల పూర్తిగా ఆకర్షితులై మోడరన్ విద్యాసంస్థల్లో విధులు నిర్వహిస్తున్న ఉద్యోగస్తులుతో లయన్స్ క్లబ్ ఆఫ్ రామచంద్రపురం -మోడరన్ సంస్థను స్థాపించి లయన్స్ క్లబ్ పై తనకు గల అభిమానాన్ని చాటుకున్నారు. ప్రతి సందర్భంలోనూ లయన్స్ క్లబ్ తో తనకు గల అనుబంధాన్ని జి.వి. రావు గుర్తు చేసుకుంటూ ఉంటారు. తన ఆలోచనలో, ఆచరణలో లయన్స్ క్లబ్ భావాల ప్రభావం స్పష్టంగా కనిపిస్తుంది.
సుమారు మూడు వేల మంది విద్యార్థులతో విజయవంతంగా మోడరన్ విద్యాసంస్థలను నడిపించడమే కాకుండ, 200 పైబడిన సిబ్బందికి మోడరన్ విద్యాసంస్థలలో ఉద్యోగ అవకాశాలు కలుగజేసి వారిని కేవలం ఉద్యోగస్తులగానే కాకుండా “మోడరన్ ఫ్యామిలీ ” గా జి. వి.రావు భావిస్తుంటారు.

Dr. G.V. Rao: A Beacon of Education in Rural Andhra Pradesh
For more than four decades, Dr. Lion G.V. Rao, Chairman of the prestigious Modern Educational Institutions in Ramachandrapuram, has been quietly transforming the educational landscape of rural Andhra Pradesh. Through his unwavering commitment to education and social service, he has helped thousands of students from humble backgrounds discover their potential and emerge as achievers in India and abroad.
Born into a lower-middle-class family in Yanamadala, a small village in the Ramachandrapuram region, Dr. Rao developed a deep passion for education at an early age. His childhood was marked by financial hardships, but adversity never weakened his determination to pursue learning. While continuing his education, he also undertook physical work to support his family, an experience that shaped his values of perseverance, self-reliance and hard work.
Before reaching the age of 20, he married Amruthamayi Mangadevi. With the steadfast support of his wife and through sustained self-effort, Dr. Rao gradually built a career in the field of education and went on to establish himself as a respected educationist.
His contribution, however, extends well beyond the classroom. Through the Modern Foundation, Dr. Rao has been actively involved in a wide range of social-service initiatives. These include extending financial assistance to the needy, supporting relief efforts during natural calamities, providing free education to meritorious students from economically disadvantaged families, and recognising government employees for their dedicated public service.
He has also regularly honoured political leaders, members of the armed forces and farmers in recognition of their contribution to society. His philanthropic activities have earned him appreciation across different sections of the community.
In recognition of his contribution to education and social service, Dr. Rao has received several national and international honours, including an honorary doctorate, Vidyaratna, Asia Pacific Gold Star and the Swaraveda Award associated with the NTR Trust, among other distinctions. These recognitions have further enhanced his standing as an educationist and philanthropist.
Approaching his seventies, Dr. Rao continues to remain remarkably active. A devoted follower of Lord Venkateswara, he considers the number seven particularly significant in his life and regards it as his lucky number. His personal beliefs, however, have never stood apart from his larger commitment to education and service.
Rejecting a purely corporate approach to education, Dr. Rao has developed Modern Educational Institutions on a cooperative and community-oriented model.
The institutions offer education from Kindergarten to postgraduate levels and have earned a reputation for producing outstanding academic results, particularly among students from rural backgrounds.
The institution’s achievements in enabling rural students to secure state-level ranks have drawn appreciation from several quarters of the education community. For many families in and around Ramachandrapuram, Modern Educational Institutions have become a trusted pathway to higher education and career opportunities.
Dr. Rao’s association with the Lions movement has also played an important role in his social-service philosophy. Deeply influenced by the ideals of Lions Clubs International, he established the Lions Club of Ramachandrapuram–Modern with the support of employees of the Modern Educational Institutions. His commitment to the principles of service and community welfare is reflected in both his thoughts and actions.
Today, Modern Educational Institutions have around 3,000 students and provide employment to more than 200 members of staff. Dr. Rao considers them not merely employees but members of what he affectionately describes as the “Modern Family”.
His philosophy towards education is simple yet profound: no student’s education should come to an end because of financial difficulties or unforeseen circumstances. The Modern Educational Institutions, he says, will continue to provide support and reassurance wherever possible. He also believes that service should flow like a pure, uninterrupted river and reach everyone in need.
Across nearly 75 villages surrounding Ramachandrapuram, thousands of people view Dr. Rao as a source of educational inspiration and a guiding light for rural society.
His journey—from a humble beginning in a small village to becoming an educationist, institution builder and philanthropist—is a testimony to the transformative power of determination and education.
At a time when education is increasingly viewed through a commercial lens, Dr. G.V. Rao’s four-decade-long journey stands as an example of how institutions can combine academic excellence with social responsibility.
