స్థానిక సంస్థల ఎన్నికల్లో బీసీలకు 34 శాతం రిజర్వేషన్లు కల్పిస్తూ ఏపీ కేబినెట్ తీసుకున్న నిర్ణయంపై ఏలూరు ఎంపీ పుట్టా మహేష్కుమార్ హర్షం వ్యక్తం చేశారు. బీసీల అభ్యున్నతికి తొలి నుంచీ కృషి చేసిన పార్టీ టీడీపీనేనని పేర్కొన్నారు. గత వైసీపీ ప్రభుత్వంలో బీసీ రిజర్వేషన్లకు కోత విధించారని విమర్శించారు.
కూటమి ప్రభుత్వం గ్రామీణ ప్రాంతాల్లో 34 శాతం, పట్టణ ప్రాంతాల్లో 33.33 శాతం రిజర్వేషన్లను పునరుద్ధరించడం అభినందనీయమన్నారు. ఈ నిర్ణయంతో బీసీ యువతకు రాజకీయంగా ఎదిగే అవకాశాలు పెరుగుతాయని తెలిపారు. చట్టసభల్లోనూ బీసీలకు 33 శాతం రిజర్వేషన్లు కల్పించాలని కోరుతూ అసెంబ్లీ తీర్మానం చేసి కేంద్రానికి పంపిన విషయాన్ని గుర్తు చేశారు.
BC Reservation Boost Welcomed
Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar has welcomed the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet’s decision to provide 34 per cent reservation to Backward Classes (BCs) in local body elections, describing it as a significant step towards greater political representation for the community.
The MP said the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had consistently worked for the welfare and empowerment of BCs since its inception. He alleged that the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government had reduced the reservation quota for BCs in local bodies.
Welcoming the decision of the coalition government to restore 34 per cent reservation in rural local bodies and 33.33 per cent in urban local bodies, Mr. Mahesh Kumar said the move would create greater opportunities for BC youth to enter public life and emerge as political leaders.
He also recalled that the State Assembly had earlier passed a resolution seeking 33 per cent reservation for BCs in legislative bodies and forwarded it to the Centre. Such measures, he said, would strengthen the political representation of BCs and enable wider participation in democratic institutions.
The MP said the Cabinet decision reflected the coalition government’s commitment to social justice and equitable political representation for BC communities.
