Sub Editor:Kolleru People’s Protection Committee Approaches the Supreme Court
Consultations with Supreme Court Advocate with the support of MP Putta Mahesh Kumar*The Kolleru People’s Protection Committee has formulated an action plan to present their arguments in the Supreme Court against the large-scale destruction carried out across 77,000 acres without determining contour boundaries based on survey numbers, which has severely impacted the livelihoods of the Kolleru region’s residents. As part of this initiative, representatives of the Kolleru People’s Protection Committee, under the leadership of Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar, met with senior Supreme Court advocate Nageswara Reddy on Tuesday for consultations. They briefed him on how the previous YSRCP government failed to implement the favorable decision taken by the central government, which ultimately harmed the livelihoods of Kolleru residents. Despite the absence of encroachments in the Kolleru region, certain individuals, backed by influential figures from the previous government, filed cases in court, leading to a recent Supreme Court verdict. MP Mahesh Kumar explained these developments to senior advocate Nageswara Reddy.Since the Supreme Court ruling clearly states that affected Kolleru residents can seek legal recourse, MP Mahesh Kumar urged the senior advocate to represent the Kolleru residents in court and fight for justice on their behalf. The MP also provided Nageswara Reddy with necessary reports for filing two writ petitions—one seeking the return of 15,000 acres of patta (assigned) lands that were destroyed and another on behalf of the long-term residents of Kolleru demanding justice.Expressing gratitude, representatives of the Kolleru People’s Protection Committee thanked MP Putta Mahesh Kumar for stepping forward to provide legal assistance under the directives of the coalition government led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, which has been supportive of the concerns of Kolleru residents. They also appreciated the coalition government’s agreement to pass another resolution in the Assembly and submit proposals to the central government.Among those who met with the senior advocate were Telugu Desam Party district president Ganni Veeranjaneyulu, MLC Jayamangala Venkataramana, Kolleru People’s Protection Committee representatives Saidu Satyanarayana, Namburi Shivaji Raju, Bale Yesu Raju, Kolli Varaprasad (Bobby), Ghantasala Mahalaxmi Raju, BKM Nani, and others.
